Today marks 2 full weeks under our belts for back to school, at least for us Minnesotans who live in and around the Twin Cities (some schools have been back in session for a few weeks or more)!
With 9 days of school done and over, we are slowing but surely getting back into routine. Earlier bed times, packing lunches, picking out clothes the night before, homework and the already dreaded FUNDRAISERS!! For our family, this year marks a big transition for us. Both of our children are now in school full time, all day-everyday and at the same school! 2 kids, 1 drop off and pickup at the same school for the first time in 5 years is a breeze!
The month of August was an emotional roller coaster for this momma. Sending my last baby off to Kindergarten after being a stay at home mom for 7 1/2 years, (and he has food allergies to boot) I was a mess! At the end of week two, I am feeling much better and starting to get use this new found time I have! It’s amazing how fast my days fly by! I even get to work during the day at Forest Lake Floral, grocery shop on my own and I get to volunteer at my kiddos school!
Here in Forest Lake, we are very fortunate to have so many opportunities (educationally) for our kiddos. Sometimes so many options and choices it’s hard to choose! My children attend a traditional elementary school but have the option of learning and being immersed into a second language, Spanish. The unique thing about this program, it’s a PARTIAL immersion program were the children still learn literacy components of education (reading, writing, spelling) in their native language – English for half the day and then are immersed into a foreign language (Spanish) for the other half of the day (math, science, art and social studies). We chose the partial immersion program for our family and love it! This year the program starts in Kindergarten but in previous years it did not start until the first grade.
With that said, our district also offers a full immersion school teaching SPANISH or CHINESE. We also have a private Catholic school, a S.T.E.M (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) school, Montessori school and several other traditional elementary schools, 2 junior highs and a high school…phew…that’s a lot of schools!

Ps…with this new found time of mine, I’m hoping to get more articles posted on our blog 🙂
